HTML Hyperlinks

In this recording we are going to add hyperlinks to our HTML documents.

To add a hyperlink within a page we use the anchor element. The anchor element requires the use of the href (hyperlink reference) attribute be set.

Occasionally we also set the target attribute which instructs the browser how to open the link. When linking to external sites we usually set the target attribute to _blank which will open the link in a new window.

When linking to an email address the keyword mailto: must appear before the email address in the href attribute of the anchor element.

Our last example in this lesson is a hyperlink to a fragment ID name. A fragment ID is set with the ID attribute an any HTML element and works as a sort of bookmark to a location within the HTML document. We can then link back to this exact location on the page using the anchor element.

As with our previous examples we will begin with our basic HTML template.
